The photocatalytic field revolves around the utilization of photon energy to initiate various chemical reactions using non-adsorbing substrates, through processes such as single electron transfer, energy transfer, or atom transfer. The efficiency of this field depends on the capacity of a light-absorbing metal complex, organic molecule, or substance (commonly referred to as photocatalysts or PCs) to execute these processes. Photoredox techniques utilize photocatalysts, which possess the essential characteristic of functioning as both an oxidizing and a reducing agent upon activation. In addition, it is commonly observed that photocatalysts exhibit optimal performance when irradiated with low-energy light sources, while still retaining their catalytic activity under ambient temperatures. The implementation of photoredox catalysis has resuscitated an array of synthesis realms, including but not limited to radical chemistry and photochemistry, ultimately affording prospects for the development of the reactions. Also, photoredox catalysis is utilized to resolve numerous challenges…

This mini-review on doping and heterojunctions for catalysis applications provides a comprehensive overview of key aspects. Doping, when carried out adequately with a uniform distribution, creates a new energy level that significantly enhances charge transfer and light absorption. This new level alters the material's morphology and enhances intrinsic defects. For instance, ZnO, despite its exceptional band edge concerning oxygen reduction and water oxidation redox potentials, faces the issue of electron-hole recombination. However, forming a heterojunction can effectively aid charge transfer and prolong electron-hole relaxation without recombination. This is where the role of doping and heterojunctions becomes crucial. Additionally, incorporating noble metals with S- and Z-scheme heterojunctions offers a promising mechanism for charge transfer and visible light harvesting, further amplifying the catalytic properties.

Particularly, this review systematically scrutinizes the advancement of the diverse synthesis methods, structural modifications, and device architectures exploited to enhance the radiation sensing performance. In addition, a critical analysis of the crucial factors affecting the performance of the devices is also provided. Our findings revealed that the improvement from single crystallization techniques dominated the film and wafer growth techniques. The probable reason for this is that SC-based devices display a lower trap density, higher resistivity, large carrier mobility and lifetime compared to film- and wafer-based devices. Ultimately, devices with SCs showed…

Production of green hydrogen on a large scale can negatively impact freshwater resources. Therefore, using seawater as an electrolyte in electrolysis is a desirable alternative to reduce costs and freshwater reliance. However, there are limitations to this approach, primarily due to the catalyst involved in the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). In seawater, the OER features sluggish kinetics and complicated chemical reactions that compete. This review first introduces the benefits and challenges of direct seawater electrolysis and then summarises recent research into cost-effective and durable OER electrocatalysts. Different modification methods for nickel-based electrocatalysts are thoroughly reviewed, and promising electrocatalysts that the authors believe deserve further exploration have been highlighted.

Discovered in 2011, a family of two-dimensional transition metal carbides, nitrides, and carbonitrides, have demonstrated promising performance as electro catalysts in the water splitting process due to their high electrical conductivity, very large surface area and abundant catalytic active sites. However, their-long term stability and recyclability are limited due to restacking and agglomeration of MXene flakes. This problem can be solved by combining MXene with other materials to create their hybrid architectures which have demonstrated higher electrocatalytic performance than pristine MXenes. Electrolysis of water encompasses two half-cell reactions, hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) at the cathode and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) at the anode. Firstly, this concise review explains the mechanism of water splitting. Then it provides an overview of the recent advances about…

The common structural framework requirements, such as the Asp-Phe-Gly (DFG) motif of VEGFR-2 interacting with the HBD-HBA region in the ligand molecules, the central aryl ring occupying the linker region, and a variety of bio-isosteres, can enhance activity against VEGFR-2. At one end, the heteroaryl moiety is essential for interaction within the ATP-binding site of VEGFR-2, while the terminal hydrophobic tail occupies the allosteric binding site. Three to five bond spacers between the heteroaryl and HBD-HBA regions provided a better result towards VEGFR-2 inhibition, mirroring the behaviors of standard drugs. Polymeric biomaterials are a widely used class of materials due to their versatile properties. However, as with all other types of materials used for biomaterials, polymers also have to interact with blood. When blood comes into contact with any foreign body, it initiates a cascade which leads to platelet activation and blood coagulation. The implant surface also has to encounter a thromboinflammatory response which makes the implant integrity vulnerable, this leads to blood coagulation on the implant and obstructs it from performing its function. Hence, the surface plays a pivotal role in the design and application of biomaterials. In particular, the surface properties of biomaterials are responsible for biocompatibility with biological systems and hemocompatibility. This review provides a report on recent advances in the field of surface modification approaches for improved hemocompatibility. On the contrary, the data of other drugs were promising and shed light on the significance of their targets for the development of new potent anti-alzheimer drugs.

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are the most abundantly used classes among therapeutic agents in medicine. NSAIDs inhibit the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX), which is responsible for the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandins. Meanwhile, non-selective NSAIDs are considered as a double-edged weapon since inhibition of COX-1 can lead to gastrointestinal side effects and kidney damage, whereas selective COX-2 inhibition provides anti-inflammatory effects without gastrointestinal toxicity. The detection of COX-2 role in inflammation process launched a new era in its management. Several trials have been established to proceed towards selectivity of well-defined anti-inflammatory members. COX-2 selective inhibitors are evidently safer on the gastrointestinal tract than non-selective NSAIDs. Nevertheless, their unexpected cardiovascular risks cannot be ignored. This review article highlights the latest trials aimed at developing new compounds with promising selective COX-2 activity.
