Accessibility at Kahubi

Standards we target

Kahubi aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA. These are the criteria referenced by Section 508 of the US Rehabilitation Act (used by US universities in procurement), by the European standard EN 301 549, and by the European Accessibility Act. Conformance work is ongoing; we review the app against these criteria as part of regular development.

What the app does today

• Full keyboard operation: interactive controls are reachable and operable by keyboard, with a visible focus indicator.
• A skip-to-content link at the top of every page for keyboard and screen-reader users.
• Reduced motion: the app honors your system's reduce-motion preference, and motion can also be turned off directly in Settings.
• Adjustable text size in Settings, independent of browser zoom (which is also fully supported).
• Light and dark themes designed with semantic color tokens and AA-contrast targets.
• Screen-reader support: landmarks, labels on icon-only controls, and live-region announcements for streaming AI responses.
• Forms with programmatically associated labels and clear error messages.

Known limitations

• PDF documents you upload are displayed as their authors produced them; their internal accessibility varies.
• Charts and network visualizations have text alternatives, but complex data relationships may be easier to review in the accompanying tables.
• Some third-party embeds (for example payment forms) are controlled by their providers.
