What a list is, and is not
A list is a plain bibliometric fact: the articles a journal published in one year, ordered by how often OpenAlex has seen them cited by the snapshot date. It is not an award, a quality judgment or a peer assessment. Citation counts differ between databases (Google Scholar and Scopus count different sources), so every page names its source and date.
Lists are frozen. When a list has been published, its ranks do not move, so a line in a CV that quotes a rank stays true. New years are added once citations have had two years to accumulate.
Authors can ask to have their name withheld on every list, and the entry stays in place. See the methodology.
