A simplified analysis of the effect of nano-asperities on particle-bubble interactions

    Jaroslaw Wieslaw Drelich

The interactions of gas bubbles with particles having rough and heterogeneous surfaces are much more complex than the commonly used DLVO - based models predict. The effects of surface roughness on flotation and particle - bubble interactions have been reported many times in the past, although a clear understanding of their origins has been lacking. To explain differences in interactions for spherical hydrophobic particles, a theoretical analysis of the interaction potential was carried out for a model rough particle interacting with a bubble surface in an electrolyte solution in this study. The attractive hydrophobic interaction potential was added to repulsive retarded van der Waals and repulsive electrical double layer interaction potentials. The rough microscopic particles were modeled as spheres decorated with nano-sized asperities. Parameters that reflect common flotation separation systems were selected for testing this theoretical model and computation of the energy barrier applicable to particle - flat bubble surface interactions. It was found that hydrophobic asperities…

Megatrends and their use in economic analyses of contemporary challenges in the world economy

    Radosław Malik, Anna Anetta Janowska

    22 citationsOpen access (CC-BY-NC-ND)doi:10.15611/pn.2018.523.18OpenAlex

The objective of the article was to perform a literature review to analyze the use of megatrends as an analytical framework in various areas of economic and social discourse. Following SALSA methodology, the scope of the research covers peer reviewed articles published between 2010 and 2018. The results show that the concept of megatrends has been utilized in analyzing the impact of fundamental economic and social changes in three main areas: foresight studies of selected industries, analyses of existing and anticipated changes in management and business practices, and other socio-economic topics. The content of the most frequently used megatrends covered: technology developments, environmental changes, demographic shifts, urbanization, and changes in geopolitics. The most coherently defined megatrends that are frequently envisaged to exercise influence on the contemporary world, and are expected to continue to do so in the future, are: digitization and development of ICT and related technologies, urbanization growth, scarcity of resources and climate changes.

Do oceny jakości rankingów wykorzystane zostały wybrane mierniki jakości metod porządkowania liniowego

The purpose of this paper is to present the results of an ESG analysis of companies from the RESPECT Index. The results of the analysis prompt the authors to formulate a postulate that ESG ratings of companies should be taken into account in the subsequent editions of the RESPECT Index. Thomson Reuters EIKON database can be used to assess the manner of managing the ESG factors by companies. It is also proposed that the stakeholders and, in particular, investors that pay attention to ESG ratings of companies, should take into account this database when analysing potential investments

Surface roughness in bubble attachment and flotation of highly hydrophobic solids in presence of frother – experiment and simulations

In this paper, the kinetic of the three-phase contact (TPC) formation and the flotation recovery of highly hydrophobic solids with different surface roughness were studied in pure water and aqueous solutions of n-octanol.The surface roughness varied between 1 to 100 μm.It was found that there was a strong influence of surface roughness on both kinetics of TPC formation and flotation. The time of three phase contact formation and flotation rate were much faster for rough surfaces in both water and aqueous solutions of frother.Irrespective of the surface roughness, at above a certain frother dose, the attachment time increased and the flotation rate decreased. It was related to the presence of air at the hydrophobic solid surfaces. The mechanism of this prolongation of the time of TPC formation at the solid surfaces with different roughness due to the frother overdosage was discussed, and the experimental data were confirmed by numerical simulations.

Działania podejmowane na arenie międzynarodowej ewidentnie zmierzają do poprawy jakości prezentowania informacji niefinansowych, rozpowszechniania dobrych praktyk i zwiększania zaufania w biznesie. Applying Machine Learning to Software Fault Prediction

    Bartłomiej Wójcicki, Robert Dąbrowski

    13 citationsOpen access (CC-BY-SA)doi:10.5277/e-inf180108OpenAlex

    Show abstract

Introduction: Software engineering continuously suffers from inadequate software testing. The automated prediction of possibly faulty fragments of source code allows developers to focus development efforts on fault-prone fragments first. Fault prediction has been a topic of many studies concentrating on C/C++ and Java programs, with little focus on such programming languages as Python. Objectives: In this study the authors want to verify whether the type of approach used in former fault prediction studies can be applied to Python. More precisely, the primary objective is conducting preliminary research using simple methods that would support (or contradict) the expectation that predicting faults in Python programs is also feasible. The secondary objective is establishing grounds for more thorough future research and publications, provided promising results are obtained during the preliminary research. Methods: It has been demonstrated that using machine learning techniques, it is possible to predict faults for C/C++ and Java projects with recall 0.71 and false positive rate 0.25. A…
