Access to formal credit and enterprise performance in Nigeria: a gender perspective
Emmanuel O. Nwosu, Anthony Orji
15 citationsOpenAlex
Show abstractHide abstract
The main focus of this study is to ascertain the impact of access to formal credit on enterprise performance. The study uses Nigerian Enterprise Surveys data for 2010 to construct a direct measure of credit constraint. From propensity score estimations, the results show that access to formal credit matters and has a significant impact on enterprise performance indicators. Firms that are credit constrained have significantly lower output per worker, capital per worker, employment of labour and investment in fixed assets for expansion compared to firms that are not credit constrained. This is more pronounced for women-owned enterprises after adjusting for bias in the estimations and controlling for sampling weights. This suggests that one way to support the growth of enterprises in Nigeria is to make access to formal credit less stringent. Also, government and monetary authorities should support credit expansion policies for medium and small enterprises in Nigeria

Background: Software developers insert log statements in the source code to record program execution information. However, optimizing the number of log statements in the source code is challenging. Machine learning based within-project logging prediction tools, proposed in previous studies, may not be suitable for new or small software projects. For such software projects, we can use cross-project logging prediction. Aim: The aim of the study presented here is to investigate cross-project logging prediction methods and techniques. Method: The proposed method is ECLogger, which is a novel, ensemble-based, cross-project, catch-block logging prediction model. In the research We use 9 base classifiers were used and combined using ensemble techniques. The performance of ECLogger was evaluated on on three open-source Java projects: Tomcat, CloudStack and Hadoop. Results: ECLogger Bagging, ECLogger AverageVote, and ECLogger MajorityVote show a considerable improvement in the average Logged F-measure (LF) on 3, 5, and 4 source -> target project pairs, respectively, compared to the baseline…

Reducing the Number of Higher-Order Mutants with the Aid of Data Flow
Ahmed S. Ghiduk
10 citationsOpen access (CC-BY)doi:10.5277/e-inf160102OpenAlex
Show abstractHide abstract
Higher-order mutants are created by injecting two or more mutations into the original program, while first-order mutants are generated by seeding single faults in the original program. Mutant generation is a key stage of mutation testing which is computationally very expensive, especially in the case of higher-order mutants. Although many mutation testing techniques have been developed to construct the first-order mutants, a very small number of techniques have been presented to generate the higher-order mutants because of the exponential growth of the number of higher-order mutants, and the coupling effect between higher-order and first-order mutants. To overcome the exponential explosion in the number of higher-order mutants considered, this paper introduces a new technique for generating a reduced set of higher-order mutants. The proposed technique utilizes a data-flow analysis to decrease the number of mutation points through the program under test and consequently reduce the number of higher-order mutants. In this technique only positions of defs and uses are considered as…

Flotation and adsorption characteristics of the most commonly used cationic and anionic collectors with high grade orthoclase were investigated through the electrokinetic potential measurement, microflotation, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) studies.According to the obtained results, orthoclase had high flotation recovery with amine and oleic acid based (OAB) collector at certain pH ranges no flotation response was observed with petroleum sulfonate at different pHs.In contrast to the flotation recovery differences, the electrokinetic potential measurements, FTIR and AFM analyses presented similar adsorption characteristics for all collectors. The results of electrokinetic potential tests showed that amine had a strong influence on the zeta potential of orthoclase. While amine turned the zeta potentials of orthoclase from negative to positive, sulfonate and OAB collector provided slightly more negative zeta potentials at certain pHs.In the case of FTIR and AFM analyses, each collector-treated orthoclase (CTO) sample displayed similar…

This paper presents a description of an agile testing process in a medium size software project that is developed using Scrum. The research methods used is the case study were as follows: surveys, quantifiable project data sources and qualitative project members opinions were used for data collection.Challenges related to the testing process regarding a complex project environment and unscheduled releases were identified.Based on the obtained results, we concluded that the described approach addresses well the aforementioned issues. Therefore, recommendations were made with regard to the employed principles of agility, specifically: continuous integration, responding to change, test automation and test driven development.Furthermore, an efficient testing environment that combines a number of test frameworks (e.g.JUnit, Selenium, Jersey Test) with custom-developed simulators is presented.
