The integration of renewable energy sources (RESs) is a key objective for energy sector decision-makers worldwide, aiming to establish renewable-rich future power grids. However, transitioning from conventional systems based on synchronous generators (SGs) or systems with a low RESs share presents challenges, particularly when accompanied by decommissioning large central generation units. This is because the reduction in inertia and system strength, traditionally provided by SGs, can lead to a loss of essential system support functions like voltage and frequency. While current converter technologies attempt to compensate for the grid support provided by SGs by enhancing converter capabilities, they still heavily rely on the presence of SGs to function effectively. These converters, known as grid-following (GFL) converters, depend on the grid to operate in a stable and secure manner. As the penetration of RESs increases, the efficacy of GFL converters diminishes, posing stability challenges in low inertia systems and limiting the integration of RESs. Therefore, it is crucial to…

Skin cancer is one of the most common types of cancer globally. Despite the remarkable advancements of deep learning methods in computer vision, automatic diagnosis of skin diseases still faces challenges such as limited data and class imbalance. Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), which can synthesize realistic data, appear as an alternative to mitigate these issues. However, for imbalanced data, unconditional GANs either generate uneven data distribution or neglect universal knowledge of the whole dataset, while state-of-the-art (SOTA) conditional GANs suffer from performance degradation due to the mode collapse of minority classes. This paper proposes a two-stage GAN-based method to synthesize fine-grained and diverse 256×256 pixels skin lesion images for the imbalanced dataset, named Self-Transfer GAN (STGAN). STGAN first learns universal knowledge from all classes then transfers this shared knowledge to each class and fuses it with class-specific knowledge to synthesize high-quality images. Communication in cyber-physical systems relies heavily on Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), which have numerous uses including ambient monitoring, object recognition, and data transmission. However, they are vulnerable to cyberattacks because they are connected to the IoT. In order to combat the difficulties associated with WSN intrusion detection, this research employs machine learning techniques, notably the Gaussian Nave Bayes (GNB) and Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD) algorithms. The effectiveness of recommendation systems is improved with the introduction of context awareness. To lessen the burden on the computer, we first do a principal component analysis and singular value decomposition on the raw traffic data. The system was tested on two datasets, yielding extremely high accuracy results. This is evidence of the system’s strength, even when the dataset is changed. On the WSN-DS dataset, the suggested SG-IDS model achieved a 96% accuracy rate, outperforming state-of-the-art algorithms with higher rates of 98% accuracy, 96% recall, and 97% F1-measurement. However, understanding why a trained algorithm makes a particular decision remains problematic. Given the growing interest in the application of learning-based models, some concerns arise in the dealing with sensible environments, which may impact users’ lives. The complex nature of those models’ decision mechanisms makes them the so-called “black boxes,” in which the understanding of the logic behind automated decision-making processes by humans is not trivial. Furthermore, the reasoning that leads a model to provide a specific prediction can be more important than performance metrics, which introduces a trade-off between interpretability and model accuracy. Explaining intelligent computer decisions can be regarded as a way to justify their reliability and establish trust. Glaucoma is a progressive eye condition that causes irreversible vision loss due to damage to the optic nerve. Recent developments in deep learning and the accessibility of computing resources have provided tool support for automated glaucoma diagnosis. Despite deep learning’s advances in disease diagnosis using medical images, generic convolutional neural networks are still not widely used in medical practices due to the limited trustworthiness of these models. Although deep learning-based glaucoma classification has gained popularity in recent years, only a few of them have addressed the explainability and interpretability of the models, which increases confidence in using such applications. This study presents state-of-the-art deep learning techniques to segment and classify fundus images to predict glaucoma conditions and applies visualization techniques to explain the results to ease understandability. Our predictions are based on U-Net with attention mechanisms with ResNet50 for the segmentation process and a modified Inception V3 architecture for the classification. Attention…

In the rapidly evolving realm of cloud computing security, this paper introduces an innovative solution to address persistent challenges. The proliferation of cloud technology has brought forth heightened concerns regarding data security, necessitating novel approaches to safeguarding sensitive information. The issue centers on the vulnerability of cloud-stored data, often necessitating enhanced encryption and key management strategies. Traditional methods often fall short in mitigating risks associated with compromised encryption keys and centralized key storage. To combat these challenges, our proposed solution encompasses a two-phase approach. In the first phase, dynamic Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) keys are generated, ensuring each file’s encryption with a unique and ever-changing key. This approach significantly enhances file-level security, curtailing an attacker’s ability to decrypt multiple files even if a key is compromised. The second phase introduces blockchain technology, where keys are securely stored with accompanying metadata, bolstering security and data…
