Dynamics of binary systems to fourth Post-Minkowskian order from the effective field theory approach

We present the contribution from potential interactions to the dynamics of non-spinning binaries to fourth Post-Minkowskian (4PM) order. This is achieved by computing the scattering angle to O(G4) using the effective field theory approach and deriving the bound radial action through analytic continuation. We reconstruct the Hamiltonian and center-of-mass momentum in an isotropic gauge. The (three-loop) integrals involved in our calculation are computed via differential equations, including a sector yielding elliptic integrals. Using the universal link between potential and tail terms, we also report: i) The instantaneous energy flux at O(G3); ii) The contribution to the 4PM unbound/bound radial action(s) depending on logarithms of the binding energy; iii) The (scheme-independent) logarithmic contribution to the 4PM non-local tail Hamiltonian for circular orbits. Our results in the potential region are in agreement with the recent derivation from scattering amplitudes. We also find perfect agreement in the overlap with the state-of-the-art in Post-Newtonian theory.

    Model-independent reconstruction of f(Q) non-metric gravity

    188 citationsOpen access (CC-BY)doi:10.1016/j.physletb.2022.137229OpenAlex

We consider gravity mediated by non-metricity, with vanishing curvature and torsion. The gravitational action, including an arbitrary function of the non-metric scalar, is investigated in view of characterizing the dark energy effects. In particular, we present a method to reconstruct the f ( Q ) action without resorting to a priori assumptions on the cosmological model . To this purpose, we adopt a method based on rational Padé approximations, which provides a stable behaviour of the cosmographic series at high redshifts, alleviating the convergence issues proper of the standard approach. We thus describe how to reconstruct f ( Q ) through a numerical inversion procedure based on the current observational bounds on cosmographic parameters. Our analysis suggests that the best approximation for describing the accelerated expansion of the universe is represented by a scenario with f ( Q ) = α + β Q n . Finally, possible deviations from the standard ΛCDM model are discussed.

Early and late universe holographic cosmology from a new generalized entropy

We propose a new four-parameter entropy function that generalizes the Tsallis, Rényi, Barrow, Sharma-Mittal, Kaniadakis and Loop Quantum Gravity entropies for suitable limits of the parameters. Consequently, we address the early and late universe cosmology corresponding to the proposed four-parameter entropy function. As a result, it turns out that the entropic cosmology from the generalized entropy function can unify the early inflation to the late dark energy era of the universe. In such a unified scenario, we find that – (1) the inflation era is described by a quasi de-Sitter evolution of the Hubble parameter, which has an exit at around 58 e-folding number, (2) the inflationary observable quantities like the spectral index for primordial scalar perturbation and the tensor-to-scalar ratio are simultaneously compatible with the recent Planck data, and (3) regarding the late time cosmology, the dark energy EoS parameter is found to be consistent with the Planck result for the same values of the entropy parameters that lead to the viable inflation during the early universe.…

NANOGrav signal from the end of inflation and the LIGO mass and heavier primordial black holes

Releasing the 12.5-year pulsar timing array data, the North American Nanohertz Observatory for Gravitational Waves (NANOGrav) has recently reported the evidence for a stochastic common-spectrum which would herald the detection of a stochastic gravitational wave background (SGWB) for the first time. We investigate if the signal could be generated from the end of a ∼10 MeV but still phenomenologically viable double-field inflation when the field configuration settles to its true vacuum. During the double-field inflation at such scales, bubbles of true vacuum that can collapse to LIGO mass, and heavier primordial black holes form. We show that only when this process happens with a first-order phase transition, the produced gravitational wave spectrum can match with the NANOGrav acclaimed SGWB signal. We show that the produced gravitational wave spectrum matches the NANOGrav SGWB signal only when this process happens through a first-order phase transition. Using LATTICEEASY, we also examine the previous observation in the literature that by lowering the scale of preheating, despite the…

In this paper, we discuss how windows in Euclidean time can be used to isolate the origin of potential conflicts between evaluations of the hadronic-vacuum-polarization (HVP) contribution to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon in lattice QCD and from e+e−→hadrons cross-section data. We provide phenomenological comparison numbers evaluated from e+e−→hadrons data for the window quantities most commonly studied in lattice QCD, complete with the correlations among them. We discuss and evaluate modifications of window parameters that could be useful in dissecting the energy dependence of tensions in the HVP integral and emphasize that further optimizations require a precise knowledge of the full covariance matrix in lattice-QCD calculations as well.

Topology of Born-Infeld AdS black holes in 4D novel Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity

The topological classification of critical points of black holes in 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity coupled to Born-Infeld theory is investigated. Considered independently, Born-infeld corrections to the Einstein action alter the topological charge of critical points of the charged AdS black hole system, whereas the Gauss-Bonnet corrections do not. For the combined system though, the topological charge of the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory is unaltered in the presence of Born-Infeld coupling.

In this letter, we investigate the cosmic expansion scenario of the universe in the framework of f(R,Lm) gravity theory. We consider a non-linear f(R,Lm) model, specifically, f(R,Lm)=R2+Lmn+β, where n and β are free model parameters. Then we derive the motion equations for flat FLRW universe and obtain the exact solution of corresponding field equations. Then we estimate the best fit ranges of model parameters by using updated H(z) datasets consisting of 57 points and the Pantheon datasets consisting of 1048 points. Further we investigate the physical behavior of density and the deceleration parameter. The evolution of deceleration parameter depicts a transition from deceleration to acceleration phases of the universe. Moreover, we analyze the stability of the solution of our cosmological model under the observational constraint by considering a linear perturbation. Lastly, we investigate the behavior of Om diagnostic parameter and we observe that our model shows quintessence type behavior. We conclude that our f(R,Lm) cosmological model agrees with the recent observational studies…

Testing Bell inequalities in Higgs boson decays

    Alan J. Barr

    105 citationsOpen access (CC-BY)doi:10.1016/j.physletb.2021.136866OpenAlex

    Show abstract

Higgs boson decays produce pairs of W bosons in a maximally entangled state, the spins of which can be expected to violate Bell inequalities. We show that the spin density matrix of the W± pair may be reconstructed experimentally from the directions of the charged lepton decay products, and from it the expectation values of various Bell operators determined. Numerical simulations of H→WW⁎ decays indicate that violation of a generalised CHSH inequality is unlikely to be measurable, however the CGLMP inequality is near-maximally violated. Experimental Bell tests could be performed at a variety of colliders and in different production channels. If reconstruction effects and backgrounds can be controlled then statistically significant violations could be observable even with datasets comparable to those already collected at the LHC.

A coupled channel analysis of the D⁎+D0 and D⁎0D+ system is performed to study the doubly charmed Tcc+ state recently discovered by the LHCb collaboration. We use a simple model for the scattering amplitude and production mechanism that allows us to describe well the experimental spectrum, and obtain the Tcc+ pole in the coupled channel T-matrix. We find that this bound state has a large molecular component. The isospin (I=0 or I=1) of the state cannot be inferred from the D0D0π+ spectrum alone, although there is some experimental evidence that points to the I=0 interpretation. Therefore, we use the same formalism to predict other DDπ spectra. In the case the Tcc+ has I=1, we also predict the location of the other two members (Tcc++ and Tcc0) of the triplet. Finally, using Heavy-Quark Spin Symmetry, we predict the location of possible heavier D⁎D⁎ (I=0 or I=1) partners.

An effective model for the quantum Schwarzschild black hole

We present an effective theory to describe the quantization of spherically symmetric vacuum motivated by loop quantum gravity. We include anomaly-free holonomy corrections through a canonical transformation and a linear combination of constraints of general relativity, such that the modified constraint algebra closes. The system is then provided with a fully covariant and unambiguous geometric description, independent of the gauge choice on the phase space. The resulting spacetime corresponds to a singularity-free (black-hole/white-hole) interior and two asymptotically flat exterior regions of equal mass. The interior region contains a minimal smooth spacelike surface that replaces the Schwarzschild singularity. We find the global causal structure and the maximal analytical extension. Both Minkowski and Schwarzschild spacetimes are directly recovered as particular limits of the model.

We study the status of the reactor antineutrino anomaly in light of recent reactor flux models obtained with the conversion and summation methods. We present a new improved calculation of the IBD yields of the standard Huber-Mueller (HM) model and those of the new models. We show that the reactor rates and the fuel evolution data are consistent with the predictions of the Kurchatov Institute (KI) conversion model and with those of the Estienne-Fallot (EF) summation model, leading to a plausible robust demise of the reactor antineutrino anomaly. We show that the results of several goodness of fit tests favor the KI and EF models over other models that we considered. We also discuss the implications of the new reactor flux models for short-baseline neutrino oscillations due to active-sterile mixing. We show that reactor data give upper bounds on active-sterile neutrino mixing that are not very different for the reactor flux models under consideration and are in tension with the large mixing required by the Gallium anomaly that has been refreshed by the recent results of the BEST…

Disappearance of partonic collectivity in sNN=3 GeV Au+Au collisions at RHIC

We report on the measurements of directed flow v1 and elliptic flow v2 for hadrons (π±, K±, KS0, p, ϕ, Λ and Ξ−) from Au+Au collisions at sNN=3 GeV and v2 for (π±, K±, p and p‾) at 27 and 54.4 GeV with the STAR experiment. While at the two higher energy midcentral collisions the number-of-constituent-quark (NCQ) scaling holds, at 3 GeV the v2 at midrapidity is negative for all hadrons and the NCQ scaling is absent. In addition, the v1 slopes at midrapidity for almost all observed hadrons are found to be positive, implying dominant repulsive baryonic interactions. The features of negative v2 and positive v1 slope at 3 GeV can be reproduced with a baryonic mean-field in transport model calculations. These results imply that the medium in such collisions is likely characterized by baryonic interactions.

Inspired by the recent discovery of a doubly charmed tetraquark state Tcc+ by the LHCb Collaboration, we employ the effective Lagrangian approach to investigate the decay width of Tcc+→D+D0π0/D0D0π+ and Tcc+→D0D+γ with the assumption that Tcc+ is an isoscalar DD⁎ molecule. We show that both the Tcc→DDπ and Tcc→DDγ modes contribute to the decay width of Tcc, with the former being dominant. The resulting total decay width of about Γ=63 keV is smaller than the experimental decay width obtained from the Breit-Wigner fit of the LHCb data, Γ=410±165±43−38+18 keV, while close to the number obtained from the alternative unitary analysis, Γ=48±2−14+0 keV, which supports the molecular nature of Tcc.

In this manuscript, we present a number of fascinating explicit reconstructions for the f(Q) gravity from the background of Friedmann-Laîmatre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) evolution history. We find the more general functions of non-metricity scalar Q that admit exact ΛCDM expansion history. Adding extra degrees of freedom to the matter sector is the only method to get the scale factor to behave in this manner for more generic functions of Q. In addition, a cosmological reconstruction for modified f(Q) gravity is constructed in terms of e-folding. It is shown how any FLRW cosmology can arise from a specific f(Q) theory. We also reconstruct the well-known cosmological evolution for the specific examples of ΛCDM cosmology.

Theories of non-linear electrodynamics naturally describe deviations from Maxwell's theory in the strong field regime. Among these, of special interest is the recently discovered ModMax electrodynamics , which is a unique 1-parametric generalization of Maxwell's theory that possesses the conformal invariance as well as the electromagnetic duality. In this paper we construct the asymptotically AdS accelerated black holes in this theory and study their thermodynamics – providing thus a first example of accelerated solutions coupled to non-linear electrodynamics . Our study opens a window towards studying radiative spacetimes in non-linear electromagnetic regime as well as raises new challenges for their corresponding holographic interpretation.

Primordial black holes as a probe of strongly first-order electroweak phase transition

Primordial black holes can be produced by density fluctuations generated from delayed vacuum decays of first-order phase transition. The primordial black holes generated at the electroweak phase transition have masses of about 10−5 solar mass. Such primordial black holes in the mass range can be tested by current and future microlensing observations, such as Subaru HSC, OGLE, PRIME and Roman telescope. Therefore, we may be able to explore new physics models with strongly first-order electroweak phase transition via primordial black holes. We examine this possibility by using models with first-order electroweak phase transition in the standard model effective field theory with dimension 6 and 8 operators. We find that depending on parameters of the phase transition a sufficient number of primordial black holes can be produced to be observed by above mentioned experiments. Our results would suggest that primordial black holes can be used as a new probe of models with strongly first-order electroweak phase transition, which has complementarity with measurements of the triple Higgs…

Decoding the density dependence of the nuclear symmetry energy

    Show abstract

The large imbalance in the neutron and proton densities in very neutron rich systems increases the nuclear symmetry energy so that it governs many aspects of neutron stars and their mergers. Extracting the density dependence of the symmetry energy therefore constitutes an important scientific objective. Many analyses have been limited to extracting values for the symmetry energy, S0, and its “derivative”, L, at saturation density ρ0≈2.6×1014g/cm3 ≈0.16nucleons/fm3, resulting in constraints that appear contradictory. We show that most experimental observables actually probe the symmetry energy at densities far from ρ0, making the extracted values of S0 or L imprecise. By focusing on the densities these observables actually probe, we obtain a detailed picture of the density dependence of the symmetry energy from 0.25ρ0 to 2.0ρ0. From this experimentally derived density functional, we extract L01=54±6 MeV corresponding to the symmetry pressure of P01=1.8±0.2 MeV/fm3 at ρ≈0.10fm−3, a neutron skin thickness for P208b of Rnp=0.23±0.03 fm, and symmetry pressure at saturation density of…

Confronting the primordial black hole scenario with the gravitational-wave events detected by LIGO-Virgo

Adopting a binned method, we model-independently reconstruct the mass function of primordial black holes (PBHs) from GWTC-3 and find that such a PBH mass function can be explained by a broad red-tilted power spectrum of curvature perturbations if all the events (or the small effective spin events) have a primordial origin. Even though GW190521 with component masses in upper mass gap (m>65M⊙) can be naturally interpreted in the PBH scenario, the events (including GW190814, GW190425, GW200105, and GW200115) with component masses in the light mass range (m<3M⊙) are quite unlikely to be explained by binary PBHs although there are no electromagnetic counterparts because the corresponding PBH merger rates are much smaller than those given by LIGO-Virgo. Furthermore, we predict that both the gravitational-wave (GW) background generated by the binary PBHs and the scalar-induced GWs accompanying the formation of PBHs should be detected by the ground-based and space-borne GW detectors and pulsar timing arrays in the future.

The transport properties of quark-gluon plasma created in relativistic heavy-ion collisions are quantified by an improved global Bayesian analysis using the CERN Large Hadron Collider Pb–Pb data at sNN=2.76 and 5.02 TeV. The results show that the uncertainty of the extracted transport coefficients is significantly reduced by including new sophisticated collective flow observables from two collision energies for the first time. This work reveals the stronger temperature dependence of specific shear viscosity, a lower value of specific bulk viscosity, and a higher hadronization switching temperature than in the previous studies. The sensitivity analysis confirms that the precision measurements of higher-order harmonic flow and their correlations are crucial in extracting accurate values of the transport properties.

A multi-task learning (MTL) framework, called gradient kernel ridge regression, for nuclear masses and separation energies is developed by introducing gradient kernel functions to the kernel ridge regression (KRR) approach. By taking the WS4 mass model as an example, the gradient KRR network is trained with the mass model residuals, i.e., deviations between experimental and theoretical values of masses and one-nucleon separation energies, to improve the accuracy of theoretical predictions. Significant improvements are achieved by the gradient KRR approach in both the interpolation and the extrapolation predictions of nuclear masses and separation energies. This demonstrates the advantage of the present MTL framework that integrates the information of nuclear masses and separation energies and improves the predictions for both of them.

The S-wave DD⁎ scattering in the isospin I=0,1 channels is studied in Nf=2 lattice QCD at mπ≈350 MeV. It is observed that the DD⁎ interaction is repulsive in the I=1 channel when the DD⁎ energy is near the DD⁎ threshold. The recent B-meson anomalies are coherently explained at the TeV scale by 4321 gauge models with hierarchical couplings reminiscent of the Standard Model Yukawas. We show that such models arise as the low-energy limit of a complete theory of flavor, based on a warped fifth dimension where each Standard Model family is quasi-localized on a different brane. The Higgs is identified as a pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson emerging from the same dynamics responsible for 4321 symmetry breaking. This novel construction unifies quarks and leptons in a flavor non-universal manner, provides a natural description of flavor hierarchies, and addresses the electroweak hierarchy problem.

Assuming that the measurement at CDF II is correct, we discuss the possibility to explain the anomaly in the Higgs triplet model. We find that the anomaly can be explained under the constraints from the electroweak rho parameter, the effective weak mixing angle, the partial width of the leptonic Z decay and current direct searches at LHC when non-zero mass differences among the triplet-like Higgs bosons and the vacuum expectation value of the triplet Higgs field are taken to be O(100) GeV and O(1) GeV, respectively.

The global polarization of Λ hyperons along the total orbital angular momentum of a relativistic heavy-ion collision is presented based on the high statistics data samples collected in Au+Au collisions at sNN=2.4 GeV and Ag+Ag at 2.55 GeV with the High-Acceptance Di-Electron Spectrometer (HADES) at GSI, Darmstadt. This is the first measurement below the strangeness production threshold in nucleon-nucleon collisions. Results are reported as a function of the collision centrality as well as a function of the hyperon's transverse momentum (pT) and rapidity (yCM) for the range of centrality 0–40%. We observe a strong centrality dependence of the polarization with an increasing signal towards peripheral collisions. For mid-central (20 – 40%) collisions the polarization magnitudes are 〈PΛ〉(%)=6.8±1.3(stat.)±2.1(syst.) for Au+Au and 〈PΛ〉(%)=6.2±0.4(stat.)±0.6(syst.) for Ag+Ag, which are the largest values observed so far. This observation thus provides a continuation of the increasing trend previously observed by STAR and contrasts expectations from recent theoretical calculations…

We report a novel prediction from single-field inflation that even a tiny step in the inflaton potential can change our perception of primordial non-Gaussianities of the curvature perturbation. Our analysis focuses on the tail of probability distribution generated by an upward step transition between two stages of slow-roll evolution. The nontrivial background dynamics with off-attractor behavior is identified. By using a non-perturbative δN analysis, we explicitly show that a highly non-Gaussian tail can be generated by a tiny upward step, even when the conventional nonlinearity parameters fNLlocal, gNLlocal, etc. remain small. With this example, we demonstrate for the first time the sensitive dependence of non-perturbative effects on the tail of probability distribution. Our scenario has an inconceivable application to primordial black holes by either significantly boosting their abundance or completely forbidding their appearance.

Recently, the CDF collaboration has reported a new precision measurement of the W-boson mass, MW, showing a large deviation from the value predicted by the Standard Model (SM). In this paper, we analyse possible new physics contributions to MW from extended Higgs sectors. We focus on the Two-Higgs-Doublet Model (2HDM) as a concrete example. Employing predictions for the electroweak precision observables in the 2HDM at the two-loop level and taking into account further theoretical and experimental constraints, we identify parameter regions of the 2HDM in which the prediction for MW is close to the new CDF value. We assess the compatibility of these regions with precision measurements of the effective weak mixing angle and the total width of the Z boson.

We develop a nonperturbative method through the Hartree factorization to examine the quantum fluctuation effects on the single-field inflationary models in a spatially flat FRW cosmological space-time. Apart from the background field equation as well as the Friedmann equation with the corrections of quantum field fluctuations, the modified Mukhanov-Sasaki equations for the mode functions of the quantum scalar field are also derived by introducing the nonzero ΔB term. We consider the Universe undergoing the slow roll (SR)-ultra slow roll (USR) -slow roll (SR) inflation where in particular the presence of the USR inflation triggers the huge growth of ΔB that in turn gives the boost effects to the curvature perturbations for the modes that leave horizon in the early times of the inflation. However, the cosmic friction term in the mode equation given by the Hubble parameter presumably prohibits the boost effects. Here we propose two representative models to illustrate these two competing terms.

We obtain the light meson mass spectroscopy from the light-front quantum chromodynamics (QCD) Hamiltonian, determined for their constituent quark-antiquark and quark-antiquark-gluon Fock components, together with a three-dimensional confinement. The eigenvectors of the light-front effective Hamiltonian provide a good quality description of the pion electromagnetic form factor, decay constant, and the valence quark distribution functions following QCD scale evolution. We also show that the pion's gluon densities can be probed through the pion-nucleus induced J/ψ production data. Our pion parton distribution functions provide excellent agreement with J/ψ production data from widely different experimental conditions.

We have computed the four lowest even-N moments of all four splitting functions for the evolution of flavour-singlet parton densities of hadrons at the fourth order in the strong coupling constant αs. The perturbative expansion of these moments, and hence of the splitting functions for momentum fractions x≳0.1, is found to be well behaved with relative αs-coefficients of order one and sub-percent effects on the scale derivatives of the quark and gluon distributions at αs≲0.2. More intricate computations, including other approaches such as the operator-product expansion, are required to cover the full x-range relevant to LHC analyses. Our results are presented analytically for a general gauge group for detailed checks and validations of such future calculations.

In the realm of the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy, the thermodynamics of apparent horizon bridges with the usual FLRW (Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker) equation only for a special case where the matter field is given by a perfect fluid having equation of state (EoS) parameter =−1, i.e. p=−ρ with ρ and p representing the energy density and the pressure of the fluid, respectively. To include the case p≠−ρ, we consider the modification of the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy in the present work. In particular, we develop an entropy function that leads to the usual FLRW equations, for a general EoS of the matter fluid given by p=wρ, directly from the thermodynamics of the apparent horizon. The newly developed entropy acquires a correction over the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy and differs from the known entropies like the Tsallis, Rényi, Barrow, Sharma-Mittal, Kaniadakis, and Loop Quantum Gravity entropies proposed so far. Based on this finding, we examine how the Friedmann equations of the apparent horizon cosmology are accordingly modified if one starts with a general entropy depending on the…

A shift in the W mass as reported by the CDF II collaboration can naturally be accommodated by the model without modifying the Standard Model value for the Z mass. We discuss the main implications and the properties of the new Higgs bosons . Namely, the partial decay widths of the new charged Higgs are predicted. Furthermore, the neutral Higgs has suppressed couplings to fermions and decays predominantly into a pair of W gauge bosons.

We propose a type II seesaw model for light Dirac neutrinos to provide an explanation for the recently reported anomaly in W boson mass by the CDF collaboration with 7σ statistical significance. In the minimal model, the required enhancement in W boson mass is obtained at tree level due to the vacuum expectation value of a real scalar triplet, which also plays a role in generating light Dirac neutrino mass. Depending upon the couplings and masses of newly introduced particles, we can have thermally or non-thermally generated relativistic degrees of freedom ΔNeff in the form of right handed neutrinos which can be observed at future cosmology experiments. Extending the model to a radiative Dirac seesaw scenario can also accommodate dark matter and lepton anomalous magnetic moment.

We consider Non-local Gravity in view to obtain stable and traversable wormhole solutions. In particular, the class of Non-local Integral Kernel Theories of Gravity, with the inverse d'Alembert operator in the gravitational action, is taken into account. We obtain constraints for the null energy condition and derive the field equations. Two special cases for the related Klein-Gordan equation are assumed: one where the function in the gravitational action has a linear form and another one with exponential form. In each case, we take into account two forms for scalar fields and derive the shape functions. Asymptotic flatness and flaring-out conditions are checked. Energy conditions and dynamics of the solutions are examined at the throat. The main result is that non-local gravity contributions allow stability and traversability of the wormhole without considering any exotic matter.

Moreover, we illustrate the behavior of plasma medium and non-plasma mediums on the deflection of photon's ray in the framework of Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity. Recently, the CDF collaboration has reported the precise measurement of the W boson mass, MW=80433.5±9.4MeV, based on 8.8 fb−1 of s=1.96 TeV pp¯ collision data from the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. This is about 7σ away from the Standard Model prediction, MWSM=80357±6MeV. Such a large discrepancy may be partially due to exotic particles that radiatively alter the relation between the W and Z boson masses. In this Letter, we study singlet extensions of the Standard Model focusing on the shift of the W boson mass since they are accidentally flavor and CP safe without changing the Standard Model structure. In the minimal extension with a real singlet field, using the bounds from the electroweak oblique parameters, B meson decays, LEP, and LHC, we find that the W boson mass shift is at most a few MeV, and therefore it does not alleviate the tension between the CDF II result and the SM prediction. We then examine how much various bounds are relaxed when the singlet is allowed to decay invisibly, and find that the increase of the W boson mass does not exceed 5 MeV due to the…

The recent high-precision measurement of the W mass by the CDF collaboration is in sharp tension with the Standard Model prediction as obtained by the electroweak fit. If confirmed, this finding can only be explained in terms of new physics effects. In this work, we point out a generic connection between the MW anomaly and Higgs physics observables such as h→γγ,Zγ and the ratio h→ZZ/WW. Moreover, we systematically classify new physics scenarios which can address the MW anomaly via a tree-level contribution to the Tˆ parameter. These include a real scalar triplet, a scalar quadruplet with the same hypercharge of the Higgs doublet, a Z′ boson, a vector triplet with unit hypercharge and a vector boson with the gauge quantum numbers of the Higgs doublet. These solutions to the MW anomaly are characterized by new physics states which are typically too heavy to be discovered in direct searches, but which might leave their imprints in Higgs physics.

Type-II seesaw triplet scalar effects on neutrino trident scattering

In Type-II seesaw model, an electroweak triplet scalar field Δ with a non-zero vacuum expectation value (vev) vΔ is introduced to facilitate the generation of small neutrino masses. A non-zero vΔ also affects the W mass through the electroweak ρ parameter, making it to be less than 1 as predicted by standard model (SM). The component fields in Δ come along introduce additional contributions to reduce the SM rare neutrino trident scattering cross section. These fields also induce new processes not existed in SM, such as li→lj‾lkll and li→ljγ. There are severe constraints on these processes which limit the effects on neutrino trident scattering and the ρ parameter and therefore the W mass. The newly measured W mass by CDF makes the central value of ρ parameter to be larger than 1, even larger than previously expected. Combining neutrinoless double beta decay, direct neutrino mass and oscillation data, we find a lower limit for vΔ as a function of the triplet scalar mass mΔ, vΔ>(6.3∼8.4)eV(100GeV/mΔ). To have significant effect on ρ in this model, vΔ needs to be in the range of a GeV…

We discuss the transverse momentum broadening of hard probes traversing an evolving glasma, which is the earliest phase of the matter produced in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. The coefficient qˆ is calculated using the Fokker-Planck equation, and an expansion in the proper time τ which is applied to describe the temporal evolution of the glasma. The correlators of the chromodynamic fields that determine the Fokker-Planck collision terms, which in turn provide qˆ, are computed to fifth order in τ. The momentum broadening is shown to rapidly grow in time and reach a magnitude of several GeV2/fm. We show that the transient pre-equilibrium phase provides a contribution to the energy loss of hard probes which is comparable to that of the long lasting, hydrodynamically evolving, equilibrium phase.

Recent precise parity-violating electron scattering experiments on 48Ca (CREX) and 208Pb (PREX-II) provide a new insight on the formation of neutron skin in nuclei. Within the energy density functional (EDF) framework, we investigate the implications of CREX and PREX-II data on nuclear matter symmetry energy and isovector properties of finite nuclei: neutron skin thickness and dipole polarizability. The weak-charge form factors from the CREX and PREX-II experiments are employed directly in constraining the relativistic density-dependent point coupling EDFs. The EDF established with the CREX data acquires considerably smaller values of the symmetry energy parameters, neutron skin thickness and dipole polarizability both for 48Ca and 208Pb, in comparison to the EDF obtained using the PREX-II data, and previously established EDFs. Presented analysis shows that CREX and PREX-II experiments could not provide consistent constraints for the isovector sector of the EDFs, and further theoretical and experimental studies are required.
