About the conference
NeurIPS is one of the flagship venues of machine learning — alongside ICML and ICLR — covering the field end to end: theory, deep learning, reinforcement learning, ML systems, and neuroscience-adjacent work. Acceptance is highly competitive (recent main-track rates have run roughly in the 25% range), and a NeurIPS paper is a career-grade credential in the field.
The typical cycle: abstract and full-paper deadlines around May, author rebuttals over the summer, decisions in early autumn, and the conference each December. Tracks beyond the main one — datasets and benchmarks, workshops, competitions — have their own later deadlines, which is worth knowing when the May date slips past.
