Kahubi vs Covidence

Covidence is a standard choice for review teams, especially in health research. It manages screening, full-text review, extraction and risk-of-bias tables with a clear audit trail. Kahubi covers the review from a different angle: AI assistance across search, screening and full texts, and a written review at the end.

What Covidence does well

Credit where it's due: these are real strengths, and for some workflows they are exactly what you need.

  • A structured, well-known workflow for screening, full-text review and extraction
  • Dual screening with conflict tracking and a full record of votes
  • Customisable extraction forms and risk-of-bias tables
  • Many universities and Cochrane groups already use it

Where Kahubi differs

The search is part of the flow

In Kahubi you frame the question, generate search strings and run the search inside the same flow, so the identification numbers and the screening log stay together.

AI that reads the full texts

Kahubi suggests screening decisions with reasons and, once papers are included, the agent reads the full texts to answer extraction questions with the source paper cited. You check and confirm, but you do not start from a blank form.

Analysis and writing included

Statistics on your extracted data and a written review following PRISMA, MOOSE or Cochrane reporting standards, as a LaTeX or Word document in your citation style.

Beyond reviews

The same workspace handles your other studies: interviews transcribed in the EU, survey data, grant applications and manuscripts.

Kahubi vs Covidence: common questions

Should I use Kahubi or Covidence for a Cochrane review?
If your Cochrane group requires Covidence, use it for screening and extraction. Kahubi can still help with the search strategy, reading full texts and drafting the review. For non-Cochrane reviews, many solo researchers and small teams do the whole process in Kahubi.
Does Kahubi do data extraction?
Yes, through the agent: ask it to extract the sample, design, outcomes or effect sizes from your included papers and it answers from the full texts, citing each paper. You check the values before using them.
Can I move references between Covidence and Kahubi?
Yes. Both work with RIS files, and Kahubi also imports BibTeX and CSL-JSON.
